What ... a Motorbike at a YHA?: Or How to Tour in Comfort Without Spending a Fortune

Bear these points in mind when booking and you will save a fortune ma mate, if you just book your stays willy-nilly your rooms will inevitably cost a lot more, so don’t come back moaning to me, because I did warn you. If I said I knew a place you could stay while touring this magnificent country of ours that offered comfort, great facilities, a friendly welcome, a drying room, (come on, this is Britain) a self-catering kitchen if you want to use it, (or quite nice food if you didn’t) was licensed so you can have a beer and lounge in a leather chesterfield while recounting how brilliantly you took those last corners to anyone who will listen, and was such good value even a renowned tight wad like me stays there, I would be shocked if you didn’t say “Chris the reputation you have gained for keeping your hands in your pocket is legendary, tell me and I will give you a fiver”. “Why it’s the YHA” I would say. I see your eyes are glazing over, but hang on in there because solely for your benefit we visited eight YHA hostels across the length and breadth of Wales and England just to show you how good they are to use for a motorbike tour. We stayed in mansions, shooting lodges, and manor houses for a price that doesn’t bring me out in a cold sweat. Oh and this is the YHA I am talking about, not the other organisation with a similar name so there is no need to arrive wearing a cowboy outfit or dressed as a Native American chief … your biker gear is fine. So gird your loins, burn the tent, and take the plunge into the wonderful world, of the YHA.
